IGS COIMBATORE CHAPTER IS ONE AMONG THE 30 EXISTING LOCAL STUDENTS CHAPTER IN INDIA AND THE MCET – IGS STUDENTS CHAPTER IS THE NINTH LOCAL STUDENTS CHAPTER UNDER THE DIVISION OF COIMBATORE CHAPTER.

INDIAN GEOTECHNICAL SOCIETY aims at promoting co-operation amongst engineering and science for the advancement & dissemination of knowledge in the Fields of Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Soil Dynamics, Snow & Ice Mechanics and their allied fields & their practical applications.

It acts as a common forum for the academicians, research workers, designers, construction Engineers, Equipment manufacturers and other interested in geotechnical activity.

To promote closer interaction between amongst geotechnical engineers spread all over the country, local chapters of the society were introduced in 1968 and at present 30 local chapters are functional.

In December 1970, the name “Indian Geotechnical Society” was adopted. In January 1994 it hosted 13th International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering (ICSMGE).The Society celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in the year 2008 and racing towards Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The Society not only had the distinction of hosting the prestigious 13th ICSMGE

In the year 1994 at New Delhi, it also hosted Asian Regional Conference three times during 1965, 1975 and 2007 which is the unique record. Besides these activities it hosted 6th ICEG

2010 at New Delhi and look forward to host the major International Conference ICSMGE second time, once again the near future.
