Dr.Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology was established in the year 1998. During that period library was equipped with a minimum collection of 3000 books. Within a decade the Central Library’s collection increased to above 50,000 including print and non print materials. This library is one of the largest repositories of information in this region. It is modern in terms of services, infrastructure and information technology applications. 

    The MCET Library System consists of Central Library and 11 departmental libraries which collectively support the teaching, research and extension programmes of the Institute. All students, faculty members and employees of the Institute are entitled to make use of the Library facilities on taking library membership. The Library, besides having a huge collection of books on engineering, science and humanities offers library services through its various divisions with a move to its new building in 2005.

    The Library transactions are carried out by Bar Code Technology. It has the facility of Web OPAC-online search. So the library catalogue can be accessed through intranet, in future through internet. And the library is being subscribed to online journals and E-resources in the field of Engineering and Technology.

    To satisfy all information needs of academic community. Keeping this as vision our library services are motivating students into lifelong learners in a systematic way of seeking information resources and technology. Information literacy requires collaboration among faculty, librarians and technology staff.

MISSION

    To analyze the need of information and the information hunting behaviors of the academic community and to satisfy their needs through introducing appropriate innovations of information technology, to meet the academic and personal goals that extend knowledge and promote achievement in the individual and in the department.

OBJECTIVES

        1. To satisfy the need of the user community by supporting and facilitating the knowledge, learning and teaching activities. 
        2. Focus on continuous improvement efforts and acquiring materials that are essential to the library users.
